Pickled Magnolia

🌱 Ingredients:

  • 100g Magnolia petals

  • 70ml Rice vinegar (or cider vinegar)

  • 200ml Water

  • 40g Sugar (up to your taste)

  • 1/2 Tsp Salt

🌱 Instructions:

  1. Carefully break the petals off the flower, gently clean them with cold water. It’s very important to treat the magnolia petals carefully, as the petals bruise/brown easily.

  2. Let the petals dry. Then add petals to a sterilised air-tight glass jar.

  3. Meanwhile prepare the pickling mixture: Heat vinegar with sugar and water until sugar has dissolved. Simmer 2 minutes. Pour hot warm brine over petals.

  4. Allow to come to room temperature, then refrigerate.

  5. If you cut the petals into small pieces, it can be ready to use after 6-8 hours. Otherwise uncut petals can be eaten within 24 hours.

Pickled magnolia tastes a bit similar to pickled ginger and goes very well with Asian dishes!
