Finding Joy in Homemaking
Unlike gardening or making furniture, there is no DIY tutorial out there on how to go about finding joy, so it’s something that we must cultivate in ourselves.
And today I want to share with you my ways to find purpose and joy in all of this.
Many of us believe that a home should be clean and filled with laughter, love, joy, and comfort. However, I have come to realise that a home is not just about living within four walls. It is about watching everyone in the home, going to other places and developing a personal, unique perception of what makes our home a happy haven.
Many people ask me, “How do you get everything done?” Or “How do you find so much joy in the everyday life?”
An honest answer would be not all the time.
It’s not always easy, but when the proper systems and routines are put into place, it does help a lot.
For me, taking care of my family is a way that I show them love. And my partner and my child also feel the same way about taking care of me. That helps reinforce the joy of building a family in those bad days.
Be content with where we are. Regardless of our financial, mental, physical situation, have a positive attitude about our roles in life.
Is life unfair?
I think so.
No matter who we are, there are always people who are less lucky than us.
But each of us has to make do with what we only have.
And positive thinking will surely help.
We all can have moments or even seasons of feeling overwhelmed, feeling unappreciated, or feeling like what we do may not matter. The truth is, what we are doing is very valuable. At least to the people who we love.

A way to find joy and purpose in homemaking is to acknowledge that it allows me to create a safe, cozy space for myself and my loved ones.
Each person has a unique preference of how you want your home to be. Maybe you don’t enjoy decorating spaces but perhaps you like baking, cooking. Maybe you don’t like gardening but cleaning calms your mind. Find activities that spark joy, cozy feel and do more of it.
When we first moved into this house, I found transforming it into a happy and peaceful haven a very daunting task.
But three years in, I’ve been enjoying the process.
Taking the time and slowing down is also okay!
A big part of the garden that has been neglected by the previous tenant and a sick owner, and we only started cleaning it in the third year?
No problem at all.
Emphasizing the importance of people over possessions is key to achieving a happy home. When we prioritize our family, all the other pieces of the puzzle fall into place, creating a space that is comforting and full of joy.
Taking time to recognize the beautiful parts of daily life is important. I think this is something that’s been lost as our lives have gotten busier and fuller. Let’s be honest, homemaking tasks can be very mundane, but we can reframe our thinking by being present in everything we are doing. We can be creative and make the mundane meaningful and beautiful.
